August 2-4 we headed north. Saturday evening we spent with Matt and Dawn at their home near Long Lake. Ken and Matt chopped wood, and we had a nice fire in the backyard. James liked running all over with sticks and looking for tiny toads.
On Sunday we headed up to Sleeping Bear Dunes - DH Day Campground. James and Grandpa VT sat on the picnic table while Daddy set up camp.

Then we headed for the beach to Grandma and Aunt Susan. Susan helped James find rocks to throw into the lake, a favorite beach activity. James was absolutely hysterical, though, when we took him in the water. He did not want to be there at all! He was much happier throwing rocks.

Andrew got time with Aunt Susan too. She helped him find good rocks to chew on - small enough to hold and big enough that he couldn't swallow. Andrew didn't care for the water either, but I think that was because it was just too cold. And maybe a little tired. He fell asleep on the way back to the campsite.

After dinner we went to the Dune Climb. It doesn't look too hard from the bottom, but in true dune fasion it was much more difficult the closer you got to the top (almost there, almost there...). We did make it and James smiled all the way as he ran down.

On Monday morning we went on the Stocking Scenic Drive. Beautiful! How did God think of all this? Amazing.
Then we headed to Glen Arbor and checked out Cherry Republic (yummy) and walked around town a bit before getting some ice cream. Then back to the beach we went for a quick swim before we headed home. What a great weekend!
